Is hypochlorous acid safe for cats?
Yes. Hypochlorous acid is safe for cats when properly formulated for pet care and used topically as directed. River Refresh Pet Cleanser + Deodorizer is alcohol-free, fragrance-free and formulated at 300 ppm HOCl and pH 6.5 ± 0.2.
Is hypochlorous acid safe if my cat licks it?
Topical HOCl products are generally considered non-toxic and safe if licked during normal use. “Safe if licked” refers to incidental licking after topical application, not intentional drinking.
Can I use hypochlorous acid for cat chin acne?
Yes. HOCl can be used to cleanse acne-prone chin skin and reduce germs and buildup. Apply with a saturated pad or gauze and allow the area to air dry. HOCl supports cleansing but does not treat the underlying cause of feline acne.
Can I use hypochlorous acid on itchy or irritated cat skin?
Yes. HOCl can be used to cleanse itchy, irritated or over-groomed skin and reduce germs without alcohol or fragrance. Persistent itching or over-grooming should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
Can I use hypochlorous acid on cat wounds and scrapes?
HOCl can be used to gently cleanse minor cuts, scratches and scrapes. Deep wounds, punctures, bites, significant swelling, bleeding or signs of infection should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Veterinary literature supports topical HOCl use in wound care, while the severity of the wound determines when veterinary treatment is needed.
Can I use hypochlorous acid around my cat’s eyes and ears?
Use River Refresh around the eye area and on the outer ear only. Apply with a saturated pad or gauze rather than spraying directly into the eyes or ears. Do not use it as an eye wash or ear-canal flush unless the specific product is intended for that use or your veterinarian directs you to do so.
How often can I use hypochlorous acid on my cat?
River Refresh can be applied multiple times per day as needed for routine topical care. Wet the area thoroughly and allow it to air dry. No rinsing is needed.
